Annual Township Cleanup

Saturday June 14, 2025, 8-11 a.m.

We are scheduling our annual township cleanup for June 14th, at the Township Hall.

We again plan to have receptacles for scrap metal and tires, as well as packer trucks for general refuse materials. NOTE: Tires must be off rims, & large, tractor tires are cannot be not accepted.

We regret that we do not have an outlet for E-Waste (electronics), such as computers, printers, monitors, keyboards, scanners, TVs and cell phones, which contain heavy metals and pose ground water contamination.

Items not accepted by the disposal company:

  • building materials of any kind
  • concrete, cement blocks, stones, bricks, tar paper
  • asphalt & asphalt products
  • dirt & yard waste
  • dead animals
  • animal or human waste,
  • hazardous or liquid materials, contaminated soils, & asbestos, paints, solvents, petroleum products, & herbicides
  • items that are generally more than five feet in length or extremely bulky, or appliances containing Freon (appliances must be certified as ‘Freon-free’).

Participants are asked to please assist volunteers in unloading and disposing of your waste materials.

This annual event is the time to clean up your property. Ordinance enforcement for blight and other similar infractions are scaled back until after the cleanup, but will resume in earnest after June 15th.

This cleanup is for Wilber Township property owners and residents only. You may be asked for proof.

Wilber Cemetery is Open for the Season!

The Wilber Cemetery is now open for the season. We ask family and friends of loved ones to remember that this cemetery IS NOT a perpetual care cemetery. This means that we DO NOT have a trust fund dedicated to ongoing maintenance of your loved one's sites. This is up to YOU to go out and clean up your loved ones plot and assure it is mowed, leaves removed, branches removed, etc.

We ask that you please maintain the site.

The Township is not permitted to maintain burial sites, but we will maintain the roads, utilities, grounds (with no burials), fences, etc.

Wilber Township Resident Survey

Recently the Wilber Township Planning Commission with the assistance from NEMCOG (Northeast Michigan Council of Government) had requested its residents to participate in a survey to assist the Planning Commission and the Wilber Township Board of Trustees.

The survey was created and sent with your tax bills. The survey could be returned via email, or by completing the survey directly through Monkey Survey.

NEMCOG recently returned to Wilber Township survey results, and we have attached those results in the link below.

The Wilber Township Planning Commission and Board of Trustees appreciate your participation, and the results will be reviewed.

Wilber Township does plan to send out another survey shortly and would, once again, greatly appreciate your response.

Spring Construction

The Township Zoning Ordinance requires Zoning Permits for all construction activities, including new residences, additions, garages, signs, fences, pole buildings, as well as demolitions and many other non-construction situations and activities, depending on the zoning district in which your property is located.

Also contained within our zoning ordinance are specific setback requirements for placement of structures from property and property/lot lines, or other existing structures.

The ordinance also governs such uses as the number of placement of accessory buildings, yard sales, swimming pools, fences, livestock, kennels, roadside stands and commercial activities to name a few.

The Wilber Township Zoning Ordinance No. 19-01 can be found under ORDINANCES on this website. Zoning Permits can be found under FORMS on this website.  Please feel free to reach out to our Zoning Administrator for any questions. 989-362-5410.
